You can’t operate above your level of consciousness

Someone with a low level of self-awareness cannot operate as if they were self-aware.

Not all situations require a higher level of consciousness. For example, when facing danger, our instincts keep us alive.

That said, leading from our unconscious instincts, can have unintended consequences. Leaders who react defensively to feedback, stop receiving feedback and stop learning. Leaders who are quick to criticise others’ ideas, stifle creativity and innovation. Leaders who must have all the answers create dependence, often to feed their ego.

As leaders, to access more of our capacity and have a greater impact, requires we be conscious of what we think, feel and do. This requires we make a conscious choice of the mindset, manner, mode, and mood we show-up with.

High performing leaders and teams are deliberate. They are aware of and make a conscious choice of what mindset, manner, mode and mood to show up with.

INVITATION

To access more of your capacity and lead with greater impact, be conscious of your:

  • intentions – is your objective to prove others wrong by proving you’re right or is it to learn?

  • insights – do you feel hard done by or do you see how to create new possibilities?

  • intuition – are your instincts telling you to stay safe in silence or to reveal more of your truth?

As a leader, what sets you apart is your ability to step back and observe your intentions, insights, and intuition and then demonstrate your choice to lead from ‘above-the-line.’

May you flourish.
